A BRIEF HISTORY

The university studies at the Department of Morphopathology are intended for students from Faculties of Medicine No. 1, Medicine No. 2, Dentistry and Preventive Medicine. Resident doctors in Morphopathology and other specialties are also trained here. Pathologists and cytologists follow refresher training courses offered by the Department. The main research topic consists in the dynamic study of morphological changes in atherogenesis. Overall, five Doctor Habilitated dissertations and 32 doctoral theses in medical sciences were defended, and 15 monographs and two thematic collections were published by the Department. The Department employees published over 300 scientific papers, including three textbooks (compendium-atlas) and a medical explanatory dictionary. Two inventions and 70 innovations have been registered.

    In August 2015, Associate Professor Eugen Melnic was appointed head of Department.

  • Year 2012

    Between 2012-2015, Associate Professor C. Marian served as head of department.

  • Year 1990

    In 1990, the Department received clinical status. At the same time, the Morphopathology Course of the Faculty of Continuing Education in Medicine and Pharmacy was founded (and merged with the Department in 2010). At the clinical base of the Department, studies are carried out through internships (1971-1998), magistracy (since 1996), residency (since 1999), and refresher training cycles for pathologists. Associate Professors G. Cernocan (1935-2002) and P. Ionesi (1939-2007) contributed significantly to the activity of the Department.

  • Year 1987

    In the years 1987-2012, the Department is headed by E. Zota, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, university professor. The department continues its scientific research in the field of pathomorphology of atherosclerosis, in this respect a Doctor Habilitated thesis and five PhD theses in medical sciences being completed.

  • Year 1986

    From 1986 to 1987, the Department was headed by Associate Professor A. Banaru (1937-1987), a talented educator and organizer, who implemented modern methods of student training and attestation.

  • Year 1977

    In 1977, Academician V. Anestiadi and his disciples E. Zota and S. Rusu were awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Moldova.

  • Year 1958

    In the period between 1958-1986, the Department was chaired by V. Anestiadi, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. With the founding of the new faculties (Pediatrics, Dentistry, Preventive Medicine), the educational process was modernized and profiled. Morphopathology laboratories have been opened at the Oncological Institute (professor Iraida Iacovlev), the Institute of Phthisiopulmonology (Doctor Habilitated I. Haidarli) and the Scientific Research Institute for Maternal and Child Healthcare (professor I. Fuior (1944-2008)). The Department becomes a republican scientific-methodical center.

    The scientific direction, proposed by academician V. Anestiadi, addresses the morphopathology of cardiovascular diseases. The scientific results obtained during this time resulted in the defense of three Doctor Habilitated theses, 18 PhD theses in medical sciences and five published monographs.

  • Year 1954

    Between 1954-1958, the head of the department was professor D. Golovin (1918-1981), who systematized the experience gained within the Department and enhanced the didactic process. He dedicated his efforts to organizing work in hospital morgues and coordinating clinical-anatomical conferences. The obtained scientific results have been included in three doctoral theses in medical sciences and three monographs.

  • Year 1945

    The Department of Morphopathology (until 1991 - of Pathological Anatomy) was founded in 1945, the head of department being professor F. Agheicenko (1904-1954), who contributed to the establishment of pathological anatomy units in hospitals. Scientific research focused on the central nervous system tuberculosis, five doctoral theses in medical sciences being defended in this particular field.
