University professor Cristian Lupascu – Doctor Honoris Causa of ”Nicolae Testemitanu” University

University professor Cristian Lupascu, head of the II Surgery Clinic, Department of Surgery, Gr.T.Popa Iasi University of Medicine and Pharmacy, corresponding member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences, received the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa from Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova.
The event was inaugurated by rector Emil Ceban, who highlighted, in the Laudatio, the impressive biographical course of the famous professor.
"Cristian Lupascu is a well-known personality with an indisputable authority and reputation in Romania, the Republic of Moldova and in the entire world. The Nicolae Testemitanu University Senate decided to grant him the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa as a sign of high appreciation and gratitude for the cultivation of general human values worldwide, prodigious scientific activity, meritorious results in the promotion of science and medical practice, substantial contribution to the development of cooperation relations between Nicolae Testemitanu University and Gr.T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy, significant input to the scientific forums and the joint development of scientific projects, support in the training and refresher training of university scientific-teaching staff and medical staff for the healthcare system of the Republic of Moldova in the field of surgery and transplantology, but also for the promotion of Nicolae Testemitanu University in Romania and in other countries", mentioned the President of the Senate Emil Ceban.
Academician Gheorghe Ghidirim pointed out important milestones in Professor Lupascu's activity: the special relationship of collaboration and friendship with surgeons from the Republic of Moldova, joint research, especially in transplantology, the implementation of innovations and laparoscopic surgical techniques, surgical robotics, participation in scientific congresses, active management in Romanian surgeon associations and contribution to the training of surgeons. "Professor Cristian Lupascu's extensive experience in the field of surgery and transplantology, both in terms of teaching and research, provides indispensable support in strengthening education through research in surgical sciences within the Nicolae Testemitanu University, which aims to train young specialists in surgery, transplantology, the application of minimally invasive methods according to the highest standards and best practices in the European space, a fact that allows increasing the visibility of our university among higher medical education institutions", emphasized the academician.
University professor Adrian Hotineanu, head of the Department of Surgery no. 2, spoke about his working experience with Prof. Lupascu - the joint training period at the Fundeni Clinical Institute, the first organ collection in 2014, and the series of joint experiments in transplantology, the nice relationship between the surgeons on both banks of the Prut, appreciating him as an extraordinary organizer and manager.
University professor Vlad Brasoveanu, graduate and DHC of Nicolae Testemitanu University, who had also attended the event, thanked all the professors of surgery who trained him. "Cristian Lupascu is a special person, a good friend of Bessarabia and a reliable professional for the patients of the Republic of Moldova. The Iasi center led by him is the second transplant center in Romania and the third in the Romanian space. Since 2016, Prof. Lupascu has performed around 59 liver transplants from a cadaveric donor, and this year, for the first time, he performed a transplant from a living donor, which is the 60th transplant, and I congratulate him for this achievement. Prof. Lupascu honorably represents hepato-bilio-pancreatic and transplant surgery, being a successful model not only for the Iasi school, but also for the Romanian school, both nationally and internationally. The fact that he is always receptive and available to Bessarabian professors and students is also worth mentioning," the surgeon stated.
For his part, academician Lupascu declared that he felt honored and excited while receiving the title conferred by the prestigious Nicolae Testemitanu University, well-known also in his motherland Romania, an institution with which he is proud to collaborate and share his experience.
Next, the Romanian professor held the scientific lecture New trends in liver transplantation, in which he highlighted the essential aspects in the profession he practices: the insufficiency of cadaveric grafts to cover the waiting lists, the continuous progress related to new indications for transplantation and the permanent need to improve lifelong immunosuppression.
The ceremony was attended by members of Nicolae Testemitanu University Senate, representatives of the surgical departments, students and resident doctors, members of Nicolae Anestiadi Association of Surgeons from the Republic of Moldova and other guests. The event was organized on October 17, during Nicolae Testemitanu University Days, on the occasion of the celebration of the 79th anniversary of its foundation.
